My initial idea for the 69th episode was too work all five versions of the Tom Waits song “Way Down In The Hole” that had served as the theme song for all five seasons of the HBO crime drama The Wire into the show and it evolved into a tribute to the songs of Tom Waits and it became an entire show of covers of his songs performed by over 20 artists that included Rosanne Cash, The Ramones, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and three foreign language covers.

We began episode 68 with two sets of country music duos who are/were couples in real life. This week set featuring miscellaneous covers of plastic soul songs. Artist featured include Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Dan Auerback, Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, The Wrights, The Gregg Allman Band, Dori Freeman and others.

David Watson of Clarksville, Tennessee’s Top 5 Songs That Feel Like A Hug When You Need It Most was the centerpiece of episode 67. David’s Top 5 included songs by Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco, Billy Joel, Mac Miller and Billy Idol. We also featured two songs and an interview snippet from a new, up-and-coming Clarksville artist, Sadie Fine, a set of three covers from the year 2002 and two sets of music by artists from Murray, Kentucky and Murray State University.

Episode 66 featured a set of artists whose sound resembles The Black Keys and they cover set of rock versions of songs written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Other artists featured included The Heavy, Elle King, Bruce Springsteen, Willis Alan Ramsey, Jon Batiste and The Wailin Jennys.

It was another Top 5 night on Episode 44. Henry Hegemann of Lexington, KY submitted his Top 5 Long Songs that close out albums. His 5 artists were Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Led Zepplin, Greta Van Fleet and The Who. And just for fun the whole show, while not all long songs, were all the last song on the album. Other artists featured were John Prine, Nirvana, Jann Arden, Public Enemy, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers & The Beatles

CYFI Listener Silvio’s Top 5 songs were featured on episode 34. Silvio is a native of Argentina who now splits his time between New York City and Sandisfield, Massachusetts and submitted a list of international music from Argentina, France, Great Britain, Mali and Sweden. We also featured some early and present day Argentine rock ‘n’ roll and the Talking Heads were the artist featured in episode 34’s cover set.

Episode 63 featured Susan Steady of Waterford, Connecticut’s Top 5 Songs That Remind Her Of Her Father. Because Susan’s father was a first generation Italian American the entire show was Italian American artists, Italian artists and Italian songs performed by English-speaking artists. The show featured songs by Connie Francis, Elvis Presley, Tony Bennett and Italian artists Marlene Kuntz, Adriana Celentano, Luciano Pavarotti and Negrita just to name a few.

Our 41st episode featured a set of three excellent covers of Prince songs as well as a look at up and coming Neo-Soul artists. Featured was music from Cage The Elephant, Two Door Cinema Club, Sam Cooke, Was, Not Was, Jalen Ngonda, Sun On Shade, Macklamore, War and William Bell.

Ian Cheney’s Top 5 Dylan Songs With The Word Baby In The Title was featured on Episode 60, how many can you name? The rest of the show was filled with some excellent covers of Bob Dylan songs and some Dylan like singer/songwriters that included Lori McKenna, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Mary Gaucher and Johnny Cash to name a few. Also featured was a wonderful story about how Ian’s son came to be named after Bob Dylan.

Episode sixty features nothing but songs that include a brass section. Not a single trumpet or a single saxophone but at least a three-piece brass section. That went for our set of cover songs as well. We also had sets of hip-hop and Latino music. Artists featured include Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band, Huey Lewis and the News, Public Enemy, The Buckinghams, Ojos De Brijo and Phil Collins.

Episode 59 featured a set of four Bee Gees covers and further discussion of the New York Times article written by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco where he gave an excellent analysis of how it is that we come to dislike certain artists and their music based purely on peer pressure. That article is linked in the show notes also featured songs by The Weather Station, Fatboy Slim, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Todd Snider, Haley Williams, Arcade Fire and more!

The cover set for Episode 58 was three tracks from albums that were covers of another artist’s entire album including a track from Macy Gray’s cover of Stevie Wonder’s Talking Book, The Smithereen’s cover of The Who’s Tommy and Matt Nathanson’s cover of U2’s Achtung Baby. Other artists featured were The Bottle Rockets, Weathers, Beastie Boys and The Uninvited.

Episode 57 featured some Louvin Brothers sounding music and a set of Louvin Brothers covers as well as tracks by Albert Lee, My Morning Jacket, David Byrne, Thomas Dolby, Jason Isbell, Angaleena Presley, The White Stripes, The Handsome Family and The Louvin Brothers themselves.

For episode 56 Amber of Clarksville, Tennessee submitted her Top 5 Most Therapeutic Songs but the list of artists will surprise you. They may not be who you tend to think of when you think of therapeutic music. The artists were Radio Company, Taylor Swift, Metallica, Insane Clown Posse and Tom Jones. Other artists featured are Paramore, The Dresden Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings of Leon and more.

The second listener submitted Top 5 list was featured on episode 55. Listener Ellis of Louisville, Kentucky submitted his top five favorite songs from the Beatles, Paul McCartney, Heart, Weather Report and Joni Mitchell. Also featured were The Newbees, NRBQ, Nellie McKay, Prince, Willie Chirino, Southern Culture On The Skids and more!

After attending a fantastic concert put on by Billy Strings in Lexington, Kentucky I was inspired to do an entire show on progressive Bluegrass featuring music from it’s beginning to present day. Artists featured were Sierra Hull, Newgrass Revival, Béla Flack, Ganstagrass, Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Carolina Chocolate Drops and of course Billy Strings!

Episode 53 was just music for music’s sake. No particular special features but we did look at Sturgill Simpson’s pandemic released Cuttin Grass albums that feature bluegrass versions of his earlier work in several different genres and compared and contrasted his vocal stylings between two different versions of the same song. Also featured were Bobbi Gentry, The Coasters, The Vaughn Brothers, Citizen King, Talking Heads and more!

Episode 52 was a Top 5 night! Tony Beard of Louisville, Kentucky submitted his Top 5 Albums He Can’t Stop Listening To, a list that featured Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam, The Who and Pink Floyd. Also featured were new releases by Green Day and Elbow.

Episode 51 featured our first listener submitted Top 5 list! Listener Kevin Manker of Adams, Tennessee submitted his Top 5 Rodeo Songs featuring George Strait, Red Steagall, Jerry Jeff Walker, Cody Johnson and Casey Donahew. We broke down the rodeo song and what makes it special. Other artists featured were Jackie Venson, Stereophonics, G Love, Lyle Lovett, and Darrell Scott

The 50th episode of Can You Feel It was the very first show since I returned to the air to not have a cover set. No real reason, I just forgot. But the show did feature brand new music from Mother Mother and Khruangbin. Other artists featured were Albert Lee, Dallas Wayne, Dada, David Gilmore, Little Richard, Deer Tick, The 1975, Darrell Scott and more!
