Episode 132 3/10/26 & 3/12/26

The Beatles opened and closed episode 132. We heard a great collaboration between Todd Rundgren and Rivers Cuomo of Weezer which led into the cover set for the night which were all covers performed by Weezer. We even had a bit of grunge with the Screaming Trees. Other artist featured were The Brothers Johnson, The Black Keys, Todd Snider, Blackalicious, Lianne La Havas just to name a few.

Episode 131: 3/2/26 & 3/5/26

Episode 131 is the final episode in our series nine part series devoted to musical artists jumping genres, the final of three shows devoted to the music of our champion genre jumper “Weird Al” Yankovic and it featured a special appearance by “Weird Al” drummer and archivist Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz who talked about the development of weird Al’s music through the years and how much more sophisticated Al’s song parodies and “in the style of” originals have become and what it takes to record in all those styles of music.

Episode 49 4/8/24
Sean Tisdale of Lexington, Kentucky’s Top 5 Songs That Can Make A Grown Man Cry was the centerpiece of Episode 49. His list included songs by Led Zeppelin, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones and two from Lynyrd Skynyrd. The cover set was versions of Fleetwood Mac songs. Other artists featured included Sonny Landreth, Muse, a brand new track from The Black Crowes and more!

Episode 48: 4/1/24
In Episode 48 we looked at the difference between a version and a cover through the lens of the originals for three different songs which were really big hits and that most people did not know were, in reality, covers. The originals were from Linda Lyndell, Sam & Dave and Ednaswap. We heard a set of “cryin’-in-my-beer” country songs, as well as hearing cuts from The Damnwells, Gabi Hartman, The Diablo Swing Orchestra and more!

Episode 47: 3/25/24
Episode 47 featured a couple of brand new releases, songs from seven different decades, four different countries and 10 different states and the cover set featured covers of REM songs. Artists included Hem, The Refreshments, The Chi-Lites, Both Girls, Old 97s, Annie Lennox, Mall Girl, Elbow, U2 and more.

Episode 46: 3/18/24
A new recurring segment of The Can You Feel It Radio Show, The Top 5 list, made its debut in episode 19 and I decided to re-air the show again this week. I had submitted the first Top 5 list just to get the ball rolling but and all top-five lists since have been submitted by listeners. To date I’ve received 24 Top 5s! My Top 5 list was, “Top 5 Songs That Appear Together On An Album And Must Always Be Played Together”. It featured pairs of songs by ZZ Top, Reckless Kelly, Train, Dire Straits and BR5-49.

Episode 45: 3/11/24
The 45th episode of Can You Feel It featured a cover set of hip-hop songs that took samples from rather unlikely sources. We heard a set of guilty pleasures songs and talked about whether or not there is such a thing as a guilty pleasure. Other artists featured were Radiohead, The Chicks, The Wrights, Meghan Trainor and Joe Walsh and about 10 or so more.

Episode 44: 3/4/24
It was another Top 5 night on Episode 44. Henry Hegemann of Lexington, KY submitted his Top 5 Long Songs that close out albums. His 5 artists were Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Led Zepplin, Greta Van Fleet and The Who. And just for fun the whole show, while not all long songs, were all the last song on the album. Other artists featured were John Prine, Nirvana, Jann Arden, Public Enemy, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers & The Beatles

Episode 43 2/27/24

Episode 42 2/20/24
Episode 42 featured, of all things, a set of four songs that highlighted yodeling in each one. Rodney Crowell’s new album was featured and the theme of the cover set was songs that had been written by one person has an instrumental and we’re covered by someone else who added lyrics. Other artists featured were James McMurtry, Jake Scott, John Hiatt, De La Soul, Arctic Monkeys and David Bowie made his first appearance on the show.

Episode 41: 2/5/24
My initial idea for the 41st episode was too work all five versions of the Tom Waits song “Way Down In The Hole” that had served as the theme song for all five seasons of the HBO crime drama The Wire into the show and it evolved into a tribute to the songs of Tom Waits and it became an entire show of covers of his songs performed by over 20 artists that included Rosanne Cash, The Ramones, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and three foreign language covers.

Episode 40: 1/29/24
Episode 40 started off with a track from Tommy Malone’s second solo LP and featured John Cowan, Collective Soul and Humble Pie to name a few. The cover set Warren Zevon and I searched high and low trying to find the absolute best rendition of the last song he wrote and recorded; “Keep Me In Your Heart”. Welland, Ontario’s The Mandeville’s version won the day.

We began episode 39 with two sets of country music duos who are/were couples in real life. This week set featuring miscellaneous covers of plastic soul songs. Artist featured include Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Dan Auerback, Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, The Wrights, The Gregg Allman Band, Dori Freeman and others.

Show number 38 featured return engagements from BR5-49, Paramore and Aretha Franklin. Also featured were Ry Cooder, Meghan Trainor, Fantastic Negrito and Cissy Houston and the Sweet Inspirations. Episode 37: 1/1/24 Top 5 Desert Island Discs
Our first show of 2024 was also our first top five of 2024. We featured Catherine Calame of Sheffield, Massachusetts Top 5 Desert Island Discs. But it also what’s the story of how music helped her overcome two battles against cancer. We also spoke with music therapist Grace Lauzon about music as a healing modality. Artists featured were Van Halen, Boston, Pink Floyd, U2 and more.

Episode 36: 12/25/23 Top 5 Christmas LPs
It’s always a lot of fun when Christmas lands on the same day as the show. 2023’s Christmas episode featured original versions of Christmas standards (which were hard were hard to find!) and selections from my Top 5 Christmas albums. Episode 34: 12/11/23 Top 5 International Songs
CYFI Listener Silvio’s Top 5 songs were featured on episode 34. Silvio is a native of Argentina who now splits his time between New York City and Sandisfield, Massachusetts and submitted a list of international music from Argentina, France, Great Britain, Mali and Sweden. We also featured some early and present day Argentine rock ‘n’ roll and the Talking Heads were the artist featured in episode 34’s cover set.

Episode 33: 12/4/23
Episode 33 began with a strong dose of country music that included Angaleena Presley, Rodney Crowell, Marty Robbins, the Louvin Brothers and Kelly Willis. We also heard from The War and Treaty, Khrungbin feat. Leon Bridges, Del Amitri, Todd Rundgren and NRBQ. The cover set featured Al Green songs which included an excerpt from an interview I did with Tommy Malone of The Subdudes where he talked about the daunting task that is the covering of an Al Green song.

Episode 32 featured a set of four Bee Gees covers and further discussion of the New York Times article written by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco where he gave an excellent analysis of how it is that we come to dislike certain artists and their music based purely on peer pressure. We featured our third listener submitted Top 5 in episode 31. Jack Fortune Royce of Louisville, Kentucky submitted his Top 5 Love Songs.
